The use of microcircuits in all the electronics we have at our fingertips provides a tempting target. If someone can just drop in the proper code into a chip inside your computer (and those of millions of your friends and neighbors), they do longer need to infect your computer with malware – it is pre-installed.
Such is the allegation contained in the article, “And now the Manchurian microchip“.
It should come as no surprise that the perpetrators are from the People’s Republic of China.
As reported in “Fraud Scheme Has Roots in China“, a similar scheme netted millions when credit card machines were hacked and the user’s information was collected and sent out.
Rather than try and infect millions of computers via email or skype or whatever application is most vulnerable today, why not have it built in to the hardware – seems so much easier.
